dpora should be a safe place to chat. What might not bother you, may be extremely offensive to others. These sort of cultural differences are inevitable, especially with humor. There is a mechanism in place however when these situations arise. If someone feels offended, or if they simply do not want to see someone's text, they can hit the mute button under the text to hide it's comment stream. If you get muted in this way, you may not even know about it. It's a private action based on a private opinion and therefore remains private.

However, if you are in a group and all other members of that group mute you, you may notice that no one is reponding to your comments. Also, if all members of a group mute you, you will receive a "boot". If you accumulate 3 boots, you will be banned from participating for 24 hours.

If you receive a single boot, or even two, there is nothing to worry about. If you have any boots, and do not receive another one within a 24-hour span, a boot will be subtracted. For example, if you receive 2 boots on Monday, none on Tuesday, then two more Wednesday, you will be banned until sometime Thursday. If you play nice until sometime Saturday, you will have zero boots again.

This policy is not meant to silence your voice. Usually a suspension will occur after a person gets muted from all the members of three different groups and all within a 24 hours span. If that's the case, the offensive person is making the experience worse for others and needs to take a break.

Most people will be able to express their feelings, opinions and thoughts without the concern of getting banned prematurely. There is enough leeway for getting a boot or two a day and never getting banned. Nonetheless, please be mindful that others have had a different upbringing than you and their culture may have different rules. There should definitely be tolerance for these differences. People should be able to speak their mind. If not somewhere like here, then where? Yet, without offering respect for others, someone's voice can become exhausing and no wants to hear it for long.
